Good Sportsmanship Award Nominations

THE GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP AWARDSportsmanshipaward

Each year the directors vote on a nominee for The Good Sportsmanship Award. This award will be given to a CHSA member each year based on conduct, cheerfulness and character, demonstrated during the show season. The award is given at the annual Awards Banquet. Nominees for this annual award should be proposed by the members of CHSA. It is not necessary that this nominee be a competitor. It could be a trainer, instructor, groom or anyone at all who is a CHSA member.

A key things to keep in mind is conduct and interaction of the nominee with trainers, parents, show personnel and other participants. The way a person handles success or defeat following a performance is a good indication of sportsmanship.
Integrity, honesty and adherence to the rules are also prime considerations.

Nominations, along with a brief description of why you are making the recommendation, should be sent to Kristen Kuzmickas Guadagnino, Chairman of the Sportsmanship Award Committee, 203 Regan Road, Vernon, CT 06066 or can be emailed to chsa@chsaonline.  Nominations are due by February 1, 2006.

November ATC Available

The November 2005 Around the Circuit newsletter is in the mail and online (Click here for PDF). The November ATC includes the CHSA 2006 show schedule, which is also being added to the CHSA Master Calendar.

Please note: The Western Equitation Classes in the 1st Governor's October 2 Show and the Fortunate Farm October 29 should have been triple points.   The November ATC went to press before we could fix the point totals, but the next update to the website will include the correct point totals.

CHSA Point Changes (Voted at the Board Meeting 11/08/05)

In order eliminate confusion between CHSA and other organizations, starting on December 1, 2005,  for the 2006 Show Season, the CHSA point system for Year End Awards will change.

All points toward Year Awards will be calculated as follows:
Img_6022_1
1st = 10 points
2nd = 6 points
3rd = 4 points
4th = 2 points
5th = 1 point
6th = ½ point (.5).

This includes all Championship and Reserve placings regardless of whether performed or awarded on points accumulated.  The method of multiplying points will remain the same (see pp. 23-25 of the Rule Book).

If you have any questions or comments - email chsa@chsaonline.com

CHSA has awarded two scholarships of $1,800 each to two of our young members, Caitlin Lewis and Kim Brown.

Caitlin_lewis_photo_1Caitlin Lewis is a graduate of Bristol Central High School where she was in the National Honor Society, took advanced placement classes, was on the Student Council and a member of the book club. She has been a high school volunteer in the elementary schools and is involved in the City Slicker Program at Hillside Equestrian Meadows.  Caitlin has shown successfully in the Hunter, Jumper and Western Pleasure divisions.  In 2003 she was the CHSA Stock Seat Equitation Champion in the 15-17 age group.  She is currently attending the University of Connecticut majoring in Animal Science with the hope of becoming a large animal veterinarian.

Kim_brown_1This is Kim’s third year as a CHSA scholarship winner.  She is now in her junior year at Quinnipiac University where she continues to excel in her studies.  She was fortunate enough to be chosen to spend her sophomore year studying abroad in Australia where she had many exciting experiences including backpacking through various areas and volunteering in village schools.  She is a Resident Advisor at school and has been accepted into the Master of Arts Teaching Program.
