2007 CHSA Finals - Qualified Divisions

We are pleased to announce that as of Wednesday, May 23, 2007, the following CHSA Divisions have qualified for the 2007 CHSA Finals with having 10 riders/horses having more than 25 points:

1. Short Stirrup Hunter (16 riders)
2. Short Stirrup Equitation (18 riders)
3. Pre-Children's Hunter (16 riders)
4. Modified Adult Amateur Hunter (10 riders)
5. Modified Adult Amateur Equitation (11 riders)
6. Walk-Trot Hunt Seat Equitation (12 riders)

Remember the Top 20 riders/horses who have 25 points or more will qualify and be invited to the 2007 CHSA Finals.

2007 CHSA Scholarship Application

CHSA has established a Scholarship Program for members pursuing higher education.  Funding for the program comes from the proceeds of the Silent Auction and Raffle items sold at the Annual Awards Banquet, donations given by members and surplus funds from the CHSA Finals.

Scholarship Applications for members wishing to pursue higher secondary education are now on line.
Deadline for submission of the Application is July 1, 2007.

In addition to need, applicants will be evaluated on the following criteria:

  • Grades
  • CHSA Involvement
  • Participation in equine related activities
  • Community Service
  • Extra Curricular Activities.

In 2006, CHSA awarded three scholarships of $1,500 each to three of our members, The scholarship recipients are Kim Brown, Paula Foohey, and Victoria Valenti.

The Valley Shore Emergency Management Association ((VSEMA) in conjunction with The Connecticut Horse Council and High Hopes Therapeutic Riding Center invites you to attend an emergency preparedness and planning day on July 14, 2007.
This is open to all Connecticut barn and horse owners and emergency responders.

Learn from emergency response experts on how they prepare for all emergency contingencies, what you can do to prepare your barn and how Connecticut horse owners can interface with their local emergency responders during times of extreme need.

Likely disaster scenarios in Connecticut
How to facilitate a relationship with your local emergency responders
What your local emergency responders need to assist you in times of crisis

How to prepare for:
Shelter in Place scenarios
Evacuation scenarios
Temporary re-location scenarios
Essential documentation
After the storm considerations
Basic large animal rescue techniques
Sample emergency plans

Firefighter/Emergency Responders Hands-On Workshop – Barn Fire Response and Emergency Horse Handling – 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM
(This is a hands-on training session with live horses for emergency responders only. The horse public is urged to remain and audit and learn how your local responders are trained for horse barn fires and emergency horse handling.)
